Take a peek inside Disney’s new Little Mermaid ride

Our sister paper, the Los Angeles Times, offers a scene-by-scene preview of Ariel’s Underseas Adventure, which is slated to open next year at Disney California Adventure. A similar version of the Little Mermaid dark ride is planned for the Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland in 2013.

Theme park reporter Brady MacDonald takes readers through the 11 scenes of the new attraction here. This article definitely comes with a spoiler warning — details of what riders will see from their clam shell-shaped vehicles are revealed as well as a few more artist renderings of the ride.

Walt Disney Imagineers are keeping one scene a closely guarded secret, though. Can you guess which one?

It’s the not the first kiss between Ariel and Prince Eric, but the “Happily Ever After” finale.

MacDonald points readers who want more details to a point-of-view trip here through and early concept of the ride, which was hidden among the DVD extras of the 2006 special-edition Little Mermaid movie release.

I plan on being one of the first to ride when this opens at the Disneyland Resort! After watching the point-of-view DVD extra just now, my son says, “Are we gonna go in the sea? Won’t we get wet?” :) Gotta love when a ride is that good!

Yawn…Another standard Disney dark ride. It will be neat, but the bar has been raised by the “Boy Who Lived” and his world. Step it up!

      I agree and disagree…

I disagree about the ride – I think this could be a very cool dark ride, especially if they do a good job on effects.

But I do agree that HP World has raised the bar. While I look forward to the new Ariel ride, the rest of the Fantasyland expansion is a yawn-fest. It’s essentially one new ride and thes rest is meet and greets on steroids.

The princess things look cool from a visual, but I pity any family who has a kid who wants to meet them all. Right now they can spend 1 hour in line… but once there they get to meet at least three princesses. The future looks like you’ll spend an hour to see one, then line up again and do another hour… and so on. That doesn’t sound like fun for parents with restless kids.
