Summer Nightastic preview: Tower of Terror
Dewayne Bevil, Featured, Imagineering, Things to do — By Dewayne Bevil on May 26, 2010 at 6:01 pmThe Theme Park Rangers will be offering up snippets from the Summer Nightastic media preview in the coming days. The big element in the Disney World summer programming, of course, is the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade, but I’m particularly interested in the enhancements to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Let’s restate now that all these moves are considered temporary, running from about June 6 to Aug. 14.
As far as Tower of Terror goes, there will be modifications inside and out, including an eerie glow upon approach.
The changes were a balancing act for Jason Roberts, show producer. They wanted to maintain the Tower storyline but also overlay it with something special.
“It has a great story already,” Roberts says. “We wanted to make it noticeably different.”
However, he was maddeningly mysterious still when it came to particulars.
“When you’re in the queue, before you ever get on the elevators, whether you’re outside or inside – some of them are more subtle than others – but we’ve throw in a few little things that weren’t there before,” Roberts says.
Count on special effects and some new voices at Tower, I’m told.
Inside the elevator, the changes will be obvious, Roberts says.
“You won’t have any trouble noticing them,” he says.
A special drop was developed for Summer Nightastic, and it will be the one sequence used during the event, day or night.
“Right now we have four random drops,” he says. “We kind of felt like if we just added something to that, not everyone is going to experience the new part.”

Have you heard the rumor that they are planning to change Rock N Roller Coaster from an Aerosmith theme to a Miley Cyrus theme? I am hoping beyond hope this is a horrible rumor and nothing more.
I certainly hope they are only rumors. Miley has made it very clear that she intends to part ways with Disney and has been working hard at losing her Disney image.
For the past few year Disney has been too focused on certain characters using them in too many ways; e.g Nemo but enough is enough.
LOL. That rumor was nonsense and never had any truth to it. Aerosmith will either be replaced with a wide appealing band or the ride will receive a generic theme that does away with the preshow.
that soundz like utter torture!!!
This rumor came about in part because Aerosmith’s contract with the ride was soon expiring and at the time Steven Tyler had quit the band. They’re back together and touring, so I’m sure they’ll have no problem re-signing. If they could work it into the contract to get the ride queue updated, that would be nice.
they resigned in paris this is just a rumor! please dont believe all that you read!
I would love to see Disney make a verison of the Tower of Terror which will allow those who are not into thrill rides to be able to enjoy the ride. I was thinking that the verison should just be of what the people see (the story line) on the ride before the drop.
Hey Amy, that sounds ummmmm… Awful!
Its called YouTube.
