Traveling in a pack: Disney Princesses convene in New York to welcome Tiana
Dewayne Bevil, Featured, Pictures — By Dewayne Bevil on March 18, 2010 at 1:06 pmNormally, I would have avoided posting pictures from this week’s “coronation” of Princess Tiana in New York City, where she was “officially” welcomed into the Disney Princess fold. And didn’t we do this already at the Magic Kingdom last year? Seems a bit made-up and only in the minds of Disney Consumer Products, you know, but then, it’s all fiction, right?
The pic of all the assembled princesses (plus Tiana’s Prince Naveen) is worth posting just for the sheer spectacle of it, I think.

In case you can’t tell your princesses without a scorecard, allow me to present Jasmine (from left), Snow White, Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty), Mulan, Prince Naveen, Tiana, Cinderella, Belle, Pocahontas and Ariel.
Cynics might point out that The Princess and the Frog became available on DVD and Blu-ray this week. I’m just sayin’.
Well, we’ve come this far. Here are more images from the event.

Tiana arrived in style, in a carriage driven up Madison Avenue.

She was surrounded by little royal wannabes.

At the red-carpet affair at the New York Palace Hotel, there were celebrities, including — Tina Fey, Melissa Joan Hart, Nigel Barker, Kelly Rutherford and Audra McDonald –with daughters and sons in tow. My favorite shot is this one of model Alessandra Ambrosio with her Snow-White-inspired daughter.

for those interested, we have our own coverage and dozens of photos from the event at http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney-news/movies/disney-consumer-products-welcomes-tiana-disney-princess-family-unprecedented-ceremony/
I love Mulan probably more than any of the “princesses” but she is not even remotely royalty, so I don’t know why Disney insists on lumping her in with this bunch. Pocohontas is also suspect. Her father’s not a king, he’s a chief. Not sure what that makes her, but I suspect it’s not a “princess”.
