Disney monorail receives ‘Tron’ makeover

Walt Disney World has introduced a new look to one of its monorail trains. The redesign is temporary and touts the upcoming film Tron: Legacy, which is a sequel to the 1982 Disney film Tron. The new movie, starring Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, Olivia Wilde and John Hurt, is expected to be released in December. In the meantime, look for the already-nicknamed ”Tronorail” to make the round around Epcot and Magic Kingdom. (Photo by Gene Duncan/Walt Disney Co.)

I wonder if this could be the monorail that crashed and they just repaired and repainted it so that it could be put back in service and no one would know.
That’s been completed already. Monorail Teal is the combination of Pink and Purple. I don’t know which one they put the Tron wrap on.
The Tronorail is Monorail Coral.
Agreed. I read the same thing, that they put the damaged cars aside and combined the good cars that were left from the two that crashed. They damaged cars will probably be kept as they are until investigations and law suits are complete and then will be dismantled and disposed of.
The Two pieces of the monorail fromthe crash that were reusable were put together to make monorail teal. This is simply a way to promote the new tron movie.
I know they do little things on the trams for the celebrations and stuff, but is this the first time they have ever “wrapped” an entire tram to promote ANYTHING besides the current yearly promotion? Seems a little over the top and very un-Disney-like to me.
To my knowledge, it’s the first time for Walt Disney World. But Disneyland did something similar in 2007 to promote the opening of the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. The entire monorail was wrapped in yellow and blue and given a false turret to make it look like one of the subs.
While the “Tronorail” design certainly looks interesting, I have to wonder if this was the best thought out plan. After the extensive news coverage last year of the unfortunate and fatal Monorail crash, was it such a good idea to use the Light Cycles here? I mean, in the movie/game, the winner was decided by crashing the other bikes. I know they aren’t purposely promoting more Monorail collisions, but it just doesn’t seem like the best advertising to me. I love Disney. I just don’t always love their decisions (Get rid of Iago and bring back my Tropical Serenade!)
I’m sure the kids will want to take a ride on this one…
I think it is cool. I would like to see revitalization and expansion even of the monorail system, make it really modern again. This is a step in that direction. I hope i can find a video of this Tron monorail for my site – http://www.cooldisneytrips.com – videos of rides and Disney events if you are interested.
I have pictures of the “Tronorail” with the doors open, and you can see the coral stripe.
like the Tron train. at the magic kindom they should have a prince train
