Tokyo DisneySea to get amped-up “Fantasmic!”

I’m not sure how I feel about another version of “Fantasmic!” headed to the Tokyo DisneySea park.
I’m a fan of both Disneyland’s “Fantasmic!” and the version at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But does the theme-park universe need another one?
Plus, I have always enjoyed the unique shows offered at DisneySea, for my money the best Disney park of them all. Somehow this feels a bit like a cop-out.
Yet, Tokyo DisneySea has a history of taking existing concepts and upping the stakes — just look at the clever story behind its Tower of Terror or the flying Ariel in the creative Little Mermaid show.
And, the concept drawing of this “Fantasmic!” looks amazing. Unlike in either Anaheim or Orlando, Tokyo’s show will be presented “in the round” — guests can see the show from anywhere as it will be staged in the middle of the park’s lagoon. It also looks to incorporate video technology a la the new “World of Color” show coming to California Adventure. Plus, there’s a fire-belching volcano right behind it. That will up the excitement level.
You can read the official press release here.
Meanwhile, I will reserve judgment. “Fantasmic!” is slated to debut in 2011 as part of DisneySea’s 10th anniversary celebration. I was there for the 2nd anniversary — which used Epcot’s old “Tapestry of Nations” parade puppets, and the 5th anniversary. Hope I make it back for the 10th.
