Pollo Campero will replace McDonald’s in Downtown Disney in late 2010

Pollo Campero, an international Latin chicken quick-service restaurant chain, has partnered with Levy Campero to deliver a new restaurant concept in the Downtown Disney Marketplace at Walt Disney World Resort. The restaurant, which is scheduled to open in late 2010, will replace McDonald’s and feature Latin cusine, as well as fresh, and healthful foods. Menu items will include salads, chicken, yuca fries, sweet plantains, and Latin drinks including horchata and tamarindo.
Pollo Campero, the world’s largest Latin chicken restaurant chain, serves more than 85 million customers each year at more than 300 restaurants in 12 countries around the globe. This includes more than 50 locations already open in the United States, with additional stores scheduled to open this year.

After being in Disney when the deep latins were there I hate to see it comming.
I have no problem with American Latins but the out of country people are terrible, unruly, rude, miserable people and terrible to be around on Disney vacation.

Matt- I would imagine most of the Guatemalans in my husband’s family might feel that a wrecking ball is sent into their world when their “gringa” daughter-in-law comes to visit…Thankfully, they are kind and gracious hosts, and far too polite to hurt my feelings as I slaughter their language and am ignorant of their customs. A little understanding goes a long way.
The McDonald’s restaurant is one of my families favorite to visit, it’s sad to see how such a great recognized brand can be replaced with a restaurant chain that is hardly known? The Downtown Disney area has been dying over the past few years, Mickey what is happening to this area? Very sad…..
We went to the McDonald’s in DTD some of the time, but it was usually too busy. It seems Epcot has gone the same way since they used to have McNuggets and McDonald’s Fries right when you got into World Showcase. At least it was a known thing that my little boys liked to eat. We went at Christmas and my son was so disappointed that it was changed to Latin food there. We ended up not buying any food there at all and just waiting until we got home for him.

McDonalds is a nationally known place that kids recognize all over the world. So taking this place out of DTD will most likely make this area lose business. Probably won’t get much business anyway. I have never heard of this place.
I love the fact that they’re bringing pollo campero to DTD and anyone who has been there enough times knows that there is a mcdonalds right outside of DTD where you can get the food from the dollar menu. Personally I think it was a smart move. Change can be good

I say if you can’t speak English, you shouldn’t be allowed to work in an American restaurant. It may serve Latin cuisine but its still on American soil. McDonalds will just build another restaurant somewhere close to Downtown Disney. My family immigrated from Ireland and Sweden. Spoke broken English but they tried their best to live like an American. To all those who say I’m racist…no…I’m real. My ancestors came here from Ireland during the Potato Famine…ever hear of “NINA?” No Irish need apply. So it’s not racism if most immigrants face it. Is it right? No, but in order to be treated as an American, act, speak and live like one. Does that mean don’t be proud of where you came from? No, it just means show respect for those who died for their country and speak English for crying out loud! My family is fluent in Dutch, do we speak it in public? No. Why? Because Americans speak English. So I’m glad McDonalds isnt there anymore because it is not the best food for you, I just hope at this new place, it doesn’t turn into a disgrace to my grandfather who died for this country. Can’t believe how many ignorant people are out there. Pollo Campero is the best chicken you’ll ever try. Even my “gringo” husband says that. And if you believe so much in the idea that non-English speakers should not be able to set up shop, then the same should apply to us in other countries. We’d better tell all our companies, like McDonalds, to get out of Europe.

They never caught the people who robbed that McDonalds so I don’t think the new restuarant will cause any additional crime problems. One of the main problems at Downtown Disney is that there is not enough affordable places to eat. While McDonald’s is closed, there will be even fewer affordable places to eat there. How do the people in charge of Downtown Disney keep their jobs. They are destroying the place. When they closed Pleasure Island they started the complete and total destruction of Downtown Disney! RE-OPEN the clubs at PLEASURE ISLAND!!!

What a ridiculous string of comments… Honestly – you live in Central Florida and don’t like latino folks?? You might want to move… I personally would like a quick and more healthy option available at DTD. My only real quick option right now is Wolfgang Puck Express, so this’ll be a welcome addition, assuming the food is good. I trust those that have been there, so I’ll be excited to give it a shot when it opens.
I think the other mike is right on this one!! We do need to “increase” law enforcement now in dtd because they are putting this Latino restaurant here. Maybe we can pull the extra officers from cases like Casey Anthony or Haley cummings because you know those crazy latinos are always involved in every crime in the u.s.

But if you skipped class to go somehere else other than your History class, here is a refresher. The true North Americans are Native American Indians, who were stripped of their lands by European forces. Now to the topic of Latinos… Florida was conquered by a Spaniard conquistador by the name of JUAN PONCE DE LEON, who is a LATINO. If you do not know what the word “Latino” means, it is any person who speaks any language derived from Latin which is a romance language. Italian, French, Portuguese, Catalan and Spanish are languages derived from Latin. Same as the European settlers whom established the 13 Colonies, Spaniard conquistadors started exploring south of the border, like Mexico, Florida, the Carribean, Central and South America. Christopher Columbus himself was Italian (if you didn’t know). They all spoke diverse languages and that is the beauty that is America: DIVERSITY. People assume Latinos are only those who speak Spanish and that is not necessarily the case. While there have been crimes committed by Latinos, why are we overseeing those crimes committed by other races? Many decent folks left their countries seeking a better way of life, like our ancestors did when they discovered the Americas. Why do people have the ideal that “American” is only the United States. In fact, it is not only the United States, it is The United States OF AMERICA. I understand if you feel discomfort when you can’t understand a language you don’t speak, but put yourself in a hispanic’s shoes when you speak English and they can’t understand you either… I am thrilled with my heritage. I share a bit of both and I truly get disgusted when people put other races down. Take a good look at yourself in the mirror and see if you are qualified to make an assessment that all Latinos are thieves and hoodlums. There are decent Latinos out there. FYI puerto ricans arent exactly immigrants. they are allowed to be here no questions asked. Oh and another thing, everyone who works pays taxes smart one. unless they are working under the table. if you recieve a check from your work provider, then you are paying taxes. maybe they werent nice to you because they just didnt like you.
Problem solved…..walk to the Hess station across the street, Get a turkey sub, save money, and have a picnic at the bandshell/stage. It’s cheaper—-it’s healthier——and if you are mad about Mcdonalds closing, it will show Disney what people want. Decent food at a decent price. I think a sub there is like 6 or 7 dollars for a 12″. Plus they have cheap beverages and snacks as well.(P.S. I don’t work for Hess. I am a castmember and just think it might be a good idea).
I like McDOnald, but I love Pollo Campero. I grew up eating at this place and I know people from all over the word will love it too. I can wait to go there and enjoy it.

What exactly do you consider American cuisine? Hamburgers weren’t “invented” in the states… we just eat too many of them and that’s why a majority of us are lard butts with cellulite ridden muffin tops! I guarantee you eat Italian foods(spaghetti, pizza, etc) and other cuisines that aren’t considered “American”. I guarantee probably 90% of your shoes, clothing, electronics, etc are not made in the USA, but your still buy and wear them. Why do people travel to other countries on vacations or other reasons??? simple, because they want to explore and experience different places and things. If this is so true, why is it so difficult to accept something new coming into your country?
Everything can be explained in two simple words: 1.) Globalization 2.) Nature. For many years we have been living in a globalized world, this is all a part of it, learn to accept it. It is human nature to constantly change and adapt to new circumstances, why is accepting Pollo Campero so difficult?? but I bet that as soon as you try it, you will love it too.
I am from Guatemala, we have as many Mac Donalds as we have Pollo Campero, and we have learned to accept it. Pollo Campero was born in my country, and I am proud that a company from my country has grown like this. I study and work in Walt Disney World.

As a mom of two children from Guatemala, a country in Latin AMERICA, I am so sadden to see the racist comments that I have read. It makes me so sad and worry for what my children might face from ignorant people that exist in the United States. Why are so many of us so arrogant to think that they are better than other just by the color of their skin? And I truly don’t understand why everyone pays to sit in a tanning bed, sunbath, spray on tans, so they can look like those they apparently dislike.
And I am sick of people complaining about Spanish speaking individuals and upset why they don’t learn our language! I have had people up north that don’t understand one word I say…I do have a southern accent. But no one has ever sent me to school to “loose” it! When US citizens visit non English speaking countries they get upset that everyone speaks the native languagesrather than English. Why do we think that everyone should conform to the norm in the US. Yes, the predominate language is English, that doesn’t mean their isn’t room for other languages. In a country like Guatemala, there is over 20 native languges…this in a country the size of Tennessee. In Europe, most people know several languages.
And one more thing….my children are more native to America than I am! Indians are native to this country….why do we seem to forget that and think the America didn’t exist long before Christopher Columbus arrived.
I love Pollo Campero and was excited to see it coming to Downtown Disney!! It is about time a true Latino restaurant was added. I don’t see anyone get upset cause there are China, Japanese, African, Canadian, Brazilian steakhouse, etc are everyone in the US, so why the big deal about Pollo Campero…is it because it is a true Latino restaurant???

Folks, if you’ve never tried Pollo Campero, you are in for a treat. They have fried chicken that could give KFC a run for their money, along with American sides such as fries, dinner rolls, cole slaw, and Coca Cola products, plus Latin goodies like fried yucca, Spanish rice, and delicious drinks including horchata and tamarindo. It’s great food in a fun atmosphere, and it’s just perfect for Downtown Disney. I am excited that they will soon have a location there.
My husband and I have been on mission trips to Guatemala and fell in love with Pollo Campero’s. The food is awesome! We were so excited to see that the restaurant was coming to the United States. Since then, whenever we go to a city that has one, that is where we eat. Nobody else’s chicken even comes close. If you ever have a chance to eat at the restaurant, take it. You won’t want to eat anywhere else.
Is the pallo campero’s open yet? We’re coming over to the states in september and would love to try it when we’re in dtd
