Animal Kingdom Lodge guests who return to the hotel for an afternoon break from the Disney parks can join cultural representatives from Africa to create unusual holiday ornaments. The activity takes place from 3 to 7:30 p.m. in the Jambo House lobby daily in December.
Unfertilized ostrich egg shells from Animal Kingdom Lodge and the neighboring theme park are crushed and then dyed into colorful pieces that guests glue onto animal-shaped ornaments. Glitter and beads personalize the mosaic-like ornaments, and they are hung by recycled telephone wire.
This activity is easy for family members of all ages to complete and sounds like a lot of fun. Making crafts is always popular with kids, and the more sparkle, the better.
The project is free, but a suggested donation of $5 per ornament goes to the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund. Last year the month-long activity collected more than $10,000 for global efforts.

The Animal Kingdom Lodge is definately in keeping with Disney’s tradition of fantasy. Why? Because in any African nation, NO ONE but a King would live in such a place. The rest of them live in mud huts, drainage culverts and cardboard boxes. And the Flavors of Africa bufett is another thing that is only for African royalty. I’m sure the rest of them are living on some tree root and grubs, except for the ones being starved to death by their fellow countrymen who are Muslims.
Um…of course Disney is about Fantasy. There are a lot of problems in Africa including disease and poverty, but would you pay to experience that at Disney?
Walt Disney built the parks as a way for people to escape reality.
If you want to experience Africa as it truly is then you can go to Africa…you can even go there on a mission trip and help those in need. However, that version of Africa is not what people want to experience when they visit Disney.
Jack49,
You are such a tool. I bet that you are very excited that the internet allows you to make statements that normally no one would hear you say. At least you signed your full name so we can know what a jerk you are. Oh, that’s right! You hide behind the Jack49 name so that people who know you don’t realize that you are also a jerk online as in real life.
Happy Holidays!
