Official Space Mountain re-launch will be a quiet one

It appears the official re-launch of Space Mountain is going to be a quiet one.

Disney says it doesn’t plan to hold any grand reopening ceremony for the popular indoor coaster, which officially reopens Sunday after a seven-month-long rehab project. (It’s in the midst of a soft opening right now, which means it’s available to guests but likely to experience some hiccups.) There may be an internal ribbon-cutting, but that’s about it.

It also looks unlikely that the refurbished attraction will figure prominently into Disney World marketing.

Part of the explanation is that the Space Mountain project is a simply rehab, rather than a new attraction entirely. But it’s also partly because Disney does not want to be accused of overselling the changes — and invite further comparisons to the more-sweeping makeover that Disneyland’s Space Mountain received a few years ago.
