A man carrying a loaded 9mm handgun was arrested at Downtown Disney after an off-duty deputy sheriff saw him flashing gang hand signs and noticed the outline of the gun in his waistband, investigators said today.
Several deputies stopped Frankie Gonzalez, 24, on Thursday about 11:55 p.m., but he pulled away and the 9mm Glock fell from his waistband, an Orange County sheriff’s report states. One of the deputies unloaded the magazine, which contained 14 rounds.
A check of the numbers on the gun revealed that it had been reported lost. The report does not say who the gun belongs to.
Earlier that night, a witness in a Disney restroom stall saw the gun, which apparently had been left behind, and also saw Gonzalez return to the stall and retrieve the weapon, the report says.
Gonzalez was charged with carrying a concealed firearm — he does not have the required license — and resisting arrest.

Great job
throw the book at this punk downtown disney is for families not gangs
dumb mouth breather
Agreed John…It would be a crime againt everyone to not throw the book at this guy….Make sure he gets punished to the fullest…send the message loud and clear Disney is for families not gang bangers and thugs.
At my local Starbucks here in Nashville there are men who come in with their guns in a holster right on their hips!!! It’s like the wild west in Tennessee. And it’s allowed by law. They don’t even have to conceal here. Yikes. I did notice though that this didn’t ever happen until after Obama got elected. It’s almost as though people want to shove their gun rights down your throat. It’s disconcerting.
Guns rights are not disconcerting, they keep the stupid people who don’t deserve to carry guns in check. It’s poeple like you who will do everything they can to fight down gun laws, then get shot by someone trying to rob your Starbuck’s. There are some stupid people in the world. Now go make me a Latte.
Here here!!! I agree 100%! Guns dont kill people, people do! So i will now metaphorically shake your hand Nick.
I agree that Obama’s philosophy makes it easier for thugs like this to carry aroung his stolen weapon, which he was obviously trying to show off, and that a trained, licensed weapons carrier might have been the only person able to defend the people there from this creep if he decided to use it. I would like a Venti caramel frappuchino, by the way.
Am I the only one who noticed that the gun was reported “lost” by the “responsible” licensed owner. What kind of person leaves their firearm unattended in Downtown Disney where anyone can find it? I know of at least one person who should never be allowed to carry another firearm.
Does no good throwing the book at these idiots. Only thing to do is to use the gun he was carrying and shoot him with it. Then use his body as fertilizer.
gee, didnt he know you had to have a gun license. you see how stupid having all the gun laws are, they dont mean anything to one that doesnt care about the law. gun laws only restrict honest law abiding citizens, who would protect your sorry ass from someone just like this guy with a gun.
He didn’t have a license for concealed carry. Try reading TFA again.
Under the CPL law you cant carry in a place like Disney anyways…
Sorry Srite, there is nothing Florida Statute 790.06 (12) listing “Disney” or any place like it. That is the statute that lists where you may NOT carry. Unless you want to make the streach that Disney is a “school, collage or professional sporting event” …
- Signed, a firearms instructor for 15+ years
Agreed 100%.. I teach security and law enforcment defense classes. Have had questions regarding 790 all the time..
Can you cite the law in Florida?
“who would protect your sorry ass from someone just like this guy with a gun?”
Answer: The police or in this case an off duty sheriff’s officer.
Hooray for cops!
Right, because police are everywhere and even when not can telepathically know when you are in danger and can instantaneously transport themselves to your side to protect you. Hooray for logic!
Maybe he just needs more hugs, not jail. It’s not his fault, it’s the system. He probably comes from a broken home and never had a father figure. We should not be so rash in judging him, and try to understand his point of view.
Jeez how nieve are you. Hugs? This guy wants a shortsharp shock punishment. Plenty of people had no dad/poor parenting but don’t walk around carrying. Grow up and get real, would you give this guy a hug if he pulled a gun on you? Nah, didn’t think so.
I don’t think Reid Trim is the one who is nieve………
O.K. kids listen up! todays lesson will be how to spell the word N A I V E. It’s just like the water spelled backwards, you know, evian
I do believe that Reid was kidding.
He’s obviously being sarcastic.
I think that was supposed to be sarcastic, Simon.
Poe’s law claims another victim.
I like your style
Awesome
what was he going to do,bust a cap in mickey’s a@@.
I carry in on Disney property all the time but I have a permit!
This story is why I carry all the time.
Bill, you probably also don’t flash gang signs or carry it in such a way that people can notice easily. Imagine that!
(P.S. when I lived in CA, I had a permit, and I carried at Disney, too, for the same reasons you cite.)
Just what disney needs, more guns on property which could be stolen (like this one was) or left lying around (like this one was) for kids to pick up.
If you have a gun on property you clearly have the intention to use it (kill someone) – whether its licensed or not. I dont know how on earth you think that makes you any better than this guy?
“If you have a gun on property you clearly have the intention to use it (kill someone) – whether its licensed or not”
Just because you carry gun then that means you are going to kill someone… Guns don’t kill people, people kill people… Or as Larry the cable guy says “Guns don’t kill people, husbands who come home early do” (I love that line)
I have been carrying a firearm for 14 years. I have yet to “Kill” anyone. Thank God I have never had to even pull it. I have been a firearms instructor for about 5 years now and it is my belief that education and self control is what prevent firearm violence and curbs crime. If no one was permitted to carry a weapon for self defense then the criminals would have a field day. There are more people who die by knife wounds then guns but we dont seem to be wanting to outlaw knifes, now do we…
Well then, Id like to know when you both go to disney, so I wont be there for your little gun battle…
Pride… lets take it down a notch…
That’s the problem, you people think everyone who carries is incompetent. It’s people like you who end up a victim and will defend the thug to the end.
@Reid Trim, you’re kidding, right? Of course it’s not this guys’s fault. He’s the poor victim who was never told right from wrong. Sheesh – get a clue. Let’s “understand him” up to the point he shoots someone with a gun he wasn’t handling legally.
Bill, I wish I could carry on property at Disney too, but I’m an employee and travel at night to and from work. Even though the state of Florida says I can keep my gun locked in my vehicle when I’m at work, the Almighty Mouse makes their own rules so even if i excercise my right as the state says i can, I get fired anyway. I have to take my chances five nights a week unprotected. And I do have a concealed carry permit.
The bad guys don’t care about rules.
Richard, Even WalMart has to allow their employees to keep a gun in their car in Florida, no repercussions can happen to the employee unless it is left in the open, or if it is brandished in any way. You still cannot bring it in to work, but they had to amend their policy to allow it.
Check with a lawyer, you may be able to get the Mouse to allow you to at least have it in your vehicle. So you can go home.
Dulie,
I think that most of Disney property is an exempt case from this law because of the Educational programs held all over the place out there. There are multiple programs throughout the year for High School/College students which classifies them as an educational site.
Some of you people need one.
What kind of moron leaves his gun in the bathroom anyway? Plus, it fell out of his waistband? Not only was he an ass for taking a gun into a place like Disneyworld, but he’s obviously not exactly the poster boy for responsible gun handling and gives real, legal firearms owners a bad name.
Make him get a mickey mouse tatoo on his forehead !
Nice to see that Disney’s idea of closing the PI clubs to get rid of the unsavory element is having it’s desired effect…
I like Disney security -90 year old men. Nuff said.
Richard, Dulie,
Disney has a legal exception to the firearm in your car allowance. They manufacture and store fireworks on the premises so according to the Fl law it’s illegal for an employee to store a weapon in their car. Wallmart and most other businesses don’t fall under that exception so their employees are so allowed.
Dulie the reason Disney does not allow firearms even if locked in a car is because they filed for exemption based on the fact that they produce and handle a large amount of fireworks on Disney property. It was a loophole in the law that Disney exploited. Right or wrong, Disney is not breaking the law by forcing CMs to not have a firearm in their car.
Sometimes I think we need a police state to control these scum bags. The penalty should be that they take him out and blow his freekin head off. Then you will see NO gangs at Down Town Disney.
Another stereotype found in the wild. Lord but it’s a good thing that stereotypes aren’t real.
A minority male flashing gun and gangsigns in a wildly inappropriate setting. That never happens. Surely it’s a racsist media invention.
And private non-law enforcement macho men are going to make a gun battle with a thug like this in a crowded area better? I think a better solution would be to screen all entering by walk-through x-ray or metal dectors. This is a family setting and I would sue the crap out of any private citizen if injured [suedo good guy or not]. Wanna take down tough guy? Sign up to strap on! This is coming from someone who had family injured by a “well meaning, just trying to help” John Q Public
One day you folks will get it that the police are there to protect society as a whole, not you as an individual (Supreme Court Ruling).
Many states allow OpenCarry get use to it, it’s not going away.
Love them dumb crooks. Gee, your gang hand signals are so, like super-secret that the cops can immediately spot you. “Here I am deputy….come get me?” Then leave the gun somewhere like an idiot.
This moron will end up killing himself or someone else. Why not just end his misery now? You know, premptive justice.
Many of you are missing an large point: “Earlier that night, a witness in a Disney restroom stall saw the gun, which apparently had been left behind, and also saw Gonzalez return to the stall and retrieve the weapon, the report says.”
So Mr. Witless … THANKS for coming forward AFTER the fact, insted of REPORTING it … I mean it’s not like everyone in the known universe carries a cell phone and could have called 9-1-1, “Hi, ah, I just saw some guy leave A GUN in a Disny bathroom” …
Anyone dumb enough to leave behind a gun in a bathroom and have to go back for it, licensed or not, should be taken out back and flogged.
Thank GOD and KUDOS to all the police, firemen, ems, & military who are off dutey who pay attention to the surroundings watching out for everyone. Too many people out there on the phone or texting that are unaware of what is going on around them.
